Space Hulk Participation Game
22 Jan 2025
Man versus alien in desperate battle.

Participation games remain a key feature of Beachhead, and one exciting option at Beachhead 2025 is Space Hulk, the fast-paced, tactical miniatures game from Games Workshop. Trev Goddard, a familiar face at Entoyment, has been putting in hours of effort to create and paint a stunning 3D Space Hulk board for you to dive into and enjoy.
Originally released in 1989, Space Hulk remains a beloved title in the world of tabletop gaming. Set in the grimdark universe of Warhammer 40,000, it pits squads of genetically enhanced Space Marines against the terrifying, relentless Genestealers in a tense, claustrophobic environment. It's a perfect blend of tactical gameplay and atmospheric narrative.
Space Hulk has seen multiple re-releases and expansions over the years and has long been regarded as one of the best tactical board games ever made. Its combination of suspense, strategy, and teamwork has made it an enduring classic.

In Space Hulk, players control small squads of elite Space Marines, called Terminators, as they attempt to complete missions aboard a derelict spacecraft infested with Genestealers. The game is played on a modular board, where players navigate tight corridors and rooms, making every move crucial.
What makes Space Hulk truly special is its narrative depth. Each game feels like a tense, cinematic experience, with the fate of the squad hanging by a thread as the Space Marines try to complete their objectives. Whether it’s a desperate last stand or a heroic assault, the game offers a dynamic storytelling experience every time the dice are rolled.
If you’ve never played Space Hulk, or if it’s been a while since you’ve returned, this year’s Beachhead is the perfect opportunity to dive into one of tabletop gaming’s most iconic titles. Will your Terminators survive the alien infestation, or will the Genestealers claim victory? There’s only one way to find out.
We caught up with Entoyment regular Trev Goddard about his Space Hulk participation game at Beachhead Tabletop Games Expo 2025.

Q. What are your earliest memories of Space Hulk? A. I remember seeing an article in White Dwarf magazine for it. As soon as it came out, I went to my local hobby shop and got it.
Q. There have been many editions of Space Hulk over the years. Which is your favorite? A. My favorite has to be the 1st Edition. It holds so much nostalgia.
Q. Why do you think Space Hulk continues to be so relevant? A. It's a very simple game to play, but can be very hard to win as the Space Marines. There have been different versions, but the rules have remained pretty much the same.
Above: work-in-progress photos from Trev's Space Hulk project.
Q. What can people expect from your Space Hulk participation game at Beachhead? A. A hand-built 3D board replicating the old 1st Edition tiles, with original models for added nostalgia, and a chance to play one of GW's classic games.
Thanks, Trev!
